Car shares are a great way for people to save money and also reduce their emissions. This combination of economical thinking and ecological concern has led to a boom in the car sharing industry with many new companies and co-ops cropping up all around the world. Because of this popularity there are many different options to choose from when finding a car share that will work for you, each with its own distinct advantages.
However, for some people, a car share is still impractical because they either can’t or just don’t drive. This means that they will need to find someone who is willing to share their vehicle with them and use it more in a carpool type agreement. Most agreements like this, whether long term or short term, are called rideshares. With their increase in popularity, there are many different places to meet people who are both offering rides and looking for them.
Rideshare drivers sometimes use car shares which further reduces emissions and increases the savings they can expect, but this isn’t always the case. Generally, a rideshare will simply be an agreement between two people to have the owner and driver of a car deliver you to a predetermined place for a portion of the costs of getting there. In some long term agreements there may be arrangements for the passenger(s) of a rideshare to also pay part of the maintenance on the vehicle, which is generally the responsibility of the owner.
